In Memoriam In Memoriam : A moment of silence in SMS for Bobette Delcambre
Posted by Alyssa on Wednesday, March 06, 2019 (21:07:57) (667 reads)

I have just heard that one of our loyal, dedicated and beloved members,
Bobette Delcambre has passed away in late February this year.

We at SMS all send our deepest condolences and prayers to Bobette's family at this time. Please know that she WILL be DEEPLY missed by all of us that knew her and that many of us counted her as a dear friend.

Bobette was one of our oldest active members and she played a VERY important in our club at a time when we truly needed it and her. She is one of the reasons why this club still exists, as she was dedicated to helping this club flourish and continue in as many ways as she was able.

She was a personal and dear friend of mine, and I will miss her terribly - but the club also lost a very dedicated, loyal, and steadfast supporter, member and instructor.

She was a talented jewelry maker, and did lovely wire wrapping and fused dichroic glass, as well as did some very wonderful cabochons as she was skilled in the lapidary arts. She was constantly pushing herself to learn new techniques and master a variety of jewelry forms, yet was always humble, generous, sweet and willing to share what she had learned or knew with others.

She manned a demonstration table for several years on wire wrapping at our annual fundraiser show and delighted showing the general public how fun and beautiful wire wrapping could be! She generated a lot of interest in others on learning to wire wrap and do lapidary as well as other forms of jewelry.

She loved the club and she, like Royalee, was one of the hearts that was a major cornerstone in rebuilding this club from the ground up. We were just talking about working out a class - it seems like just the other day! - for her to teach about dichroic glass, as she truly loved that art form.

As we learn of any services being held for her - we will let everyone know.

So at this time please take a moment of silence for a dearly loved member. And remember to go hug those you love and tell them how much they mean to you. I and those that knew you will miss you and your wisecracks and mischievous grin, Bobette, very very much.

heart beat

~Alyssa

Posted by Alyssa on Friday, January 25, 2019 (22:08:03) (467 reads)

Our presentation for this month, "Introduction to California Geology" will be presented by Dr. Kathryn Stanton, a professor of geology at Sacramento City College. The main Educational Meeting will begin at 7pm.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our Junior Rockhound/Pebble pup Meeting for 2019 will start at 6pm! This month we have Glenda who will be doing "Mineral Collection Collages".
Get ready to dream about what the future will bring!
Whether its a beautiful outdoor rock garden, a nice specimen collection neatly organized on a shelf or an entire room dedicated to rocks, this is a chance to share your vision.
Each person will have fun creating a beautiful poster board collage to represent their dream mineral collection & hopes for their rock-hounding future.
Using various gem & mineral magazine cutouts and stickers, we will create a picture of what we hope our future collections will look like.
Blunt tipped Scissors, magazines, glue sticks, and posterboard will all be provided. Just bring your imagination (and a snack for the kids' potluck before the Main Meeting starts)!
~~~~~~~~~~~~

After the presentation there is a potluck as usual followed by the Monthly Challenge, the live Rockhound Auction and more!

This is a great night to come and see what the club is like if you are thinking about joining SMS and if you like it, you can join right there! Hope to see everyone there! :)
