From June 29th to September 30th the SMS lapidary shop will be open from 9am to 2pm on Saturday and Sunday to help beat the heat.

Events News & Events : July 9th Educational Meeting: The Minerals of Topaz Mountain

The Educational Meeting will start at 7pm, and tonight's speaker Jim Hutchings!

Jim will be doing an educational presentation about "The Minerals of Topaz Mountain". He will be discussing the geology and current access to such gemstones like Red Beryl, Topaz crystals, Psuedobrookite, Bixbyite, and Hematite. He will also be going over the necessary equipment and preparations for digging at this site, as well as have specimens for examining!

It is sure to be a great presentation!!

Remember this is also a potluck, so please bring along a little snack or something to share with everyone!

Following the presentation we will have our Raffle, Attendance Drawing, and last, but not least, our monthly live Rockhound Auction.

Also don't forget to bring in your June/July* Monthly Challenge entry! The June/July Monthly Challenge is to bring in anything made from agate!! All entries will be put into a drawing to win 3 free shop hours!!

* June & July's Monthly Challenge was combined since we skipped the meeting last month due to the CFSM show.

Events News & Events : May 14th Educational Meeting: An Insiders Look At Tucson

May's Educational Meeting will start at 7pm, and tonight's educational presentation's speaker is our Shop Forman, geologist Michael Hunerlach! His presentation, "An Insiders Look At Tucson", will go over a how to navigate through the abundant shows and understand how and why pricing can change on the same mineral specimen as it moves through the various shows.

Remember this is also a potluck, so please bring along a little snack or something to share with everyone!

Following the presentation we will have our Raffle, Attendance Drawing, and last, but not least, our monthly Rockhound Auction.

Also don't forget to bring in your May Monthly Challenge entry! The May Monthly Challenge is to bring in anything anything that resembles a flower for Mother’s Day!!! All entries will be put into a drawing to win 3 free shop hours!!

Events News & Events : Apr. 9th Educational Meeting: Fine Metals & Jewelry: An overview

The Educational Meeting will start at 7pm, and tonight's educational presentation's speaker is Fine-Metal Artist David Milldrum! His presentation, "Fine-Metals & Jewelry: An overview of techniques, basic tools, and safety", will go over a variety of topics revolving around the art of metal working!

Remember this is also a potluck, so please bring along a little snack or something to share with everyone!

Following the presentation we will have our Raffle, Attendance Drawing, and last, but not least, our monthly Rockhound Auction. Up for auction tonight will be some faceted stones, a trim saw, slabs, rough rock, some material perfect for tumbling, pendants, and whatever else our members might decide to bring to sell!

Also don't forget to bring in your April Monthly Challenge entry! The April Monthly Challenge is to bring in anything egg-shaped or related to Spring and Easter!! All entries will be put into a drawing to win 3 free shop hours!!

Events News & Events : Feb. 12th Educational Meeting - The World's Greatest Geological Wonders DVDs

The Educational Meeting will start at 7pm, and tonight's educational presentation will a showing of one of the DVD series "The World's Greatest Geological Wonders: 36 Spectacular Sites". This is a six disk series, and each disk covers six geological sites! Should be pretty interesting to watch and learn about different areas and what is found there!

Remember this is also a potluck, so please bring along a little snack or something to share with everyone!

Following the presentation we will have our Raffle, Attendance Drawing, and last, but not least, our monthly Rockhound Auction. Up for auction tonight will be some faceted stones, quartz crystal clusters, a few slabs, fossils, some material perfect for tumbling, some of the stone keychains (that we made for the show but didn't get to put out), and whatever else our members might decide to bring to sell!

Also don't forget to bring in your February Monthly Challenge entry! The February Monthly Challenge is to bring in something RED that YOU made with a natural stone! All entries will be put into a drawing to win 3 free shop hours!!
